Can we hurt the Lord?

Then those of you who escape will remember Me among the nations to which they will be carried captive, how I have been hurt by their adulterous hearts which turned away from Me, and by their eyes which played the harlot after their idols; and they will loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils they have committed, for all their abominations. (Ezekiel 6:9)

Yes, we can hurt the Lord; and we are hurting the Lord, twelve steps at a time. You are clinging to a system that never came from Him, and you have made an idol of it.  The Lord has seen this before:

And those who bow down and swear to the Lord and yet swear by Milcom, (Zephaniah 1:5)

Milcom, the hideous Ammonite god.

But Alcoholics Anonymous is your Milcom. You have transferred some of your love and faith from our Great God, who sent His Son to die for our sins, to the idol of Alcoholics Anonymous. You will deny this transference of faith, of course, and go on to your next meeting.

A loving God warns you, but you do not want to listen–in fact, you do not want others to hear.

Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11)
